All Kinds of Minds allows us to prepare our students for a changing world
An independent coeducational day school in Wilmington, North Carolina, Cape
Fear Academy provides its more than 660 grade P-12 students with a challenging
college preparatory program. Established in 1967, the school emphasizes
hands-on learning across academic disciplines. Respect, integrity, academic
excellence, and service to others are key components of the school's mission.
Headmaster John B. Meehl says, "Our goal is to teach students to be good
thinkers and lifelong learners, and to prepare them for a changing world with
increased competition for jobs and resources. Our faculty is committed to
learning about learning and helping our students engage in meaningful
reflection--not just on what they learn but how they learn it. We wanted to
implement a program that would allow us to achieve these goals, and that is why
we found the approach from All Kinds of Minds so valuable."
Cape Fear Academy began partnering with All Kinds of Minds in 2005 to provide
professional development to its faculty. As a result of this partnership, more
than 60 percent of the faculty uses the All Kinds of Minds processes to work
with individual students, entire classrooms, and parents. Mr. Meehl added
"Having this training has allowed us to promote respectful interactions and an
environment where students can feel safe to try new things, challenge
themselves, and develop self-confidence based on real achievements."
