What is a Large Scale Initiative?
A large scale initiative is operated by All Kinds of Minds in partnership with a local district to provide programs and services to public school educators in that particular district.

How can my district become a Large Scale Initiative?
All Kinds of Minds selects these types of initiatives based on its capacity to deliver programs and services in an effective manner and in concert with its strategic geographic expansion plans. Should a district be selected, a proposal for delivery of programs and services is submitted by All Kinds of Minds to the district in question.

How is the Schools Attuned Program, Houston funded?
Typically, the cost for a participant to attend the Schools Attuned Program is $1,500. However, thanks to a generous grant from The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, educators from the following local ISD's can attend the Schools Attuned Program at NO COST: Aldine; Alief; Houston; Humble; North Forest; and Spring Branch.

Can private school educators attend the Schools Attuned Program, Houston?
Because this initiative is funded by a grant from The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, only public school educators from the following Houston area ISD's can attend these courses: Aldine; Alief; Houston; Humble; North Forest; Spring Branch. Private school educators interested in attending the Schools Attuned Program may wish to attend a course through a Schools Attuned Professional Development Provider, including The Learning Center of North Texas site provider in Fort Worth, TX or apply to host an On-Demand program.

Can parents or other professionals attend the Schools Attuned Program, Houston?
At this time, funding extends only to public school educators who are currently employed by one of the following Houston area ISD's: Aldine; Alief; Houston; Humble; North Forest; Spring Branch. Participants must attend the course as part of a school team. Other related service professionals (school counselors, school psychologists, etc.) interested in the Schools Attuned Program can also attend with their school team.

Why does the Schools Attuned Program require me to attend the Schools Attuned Program with a team?
Past experience has shown the implementation of the Schools Attuned Program to be more successful when a school sends a cadre of educators, including an administrator, to the Core Course.

For that reason, along with classroom teachers, your team must include a building administrator or faculty member in a school leadership role (e.g., curriculum specialist, department chair, leader of student support team, or other lead teacher position).

Can I receive CEU's for attending the Schools Attuned Program, Houston?
Before attending the Schools Attuned Program, Houston, be sure to check with your local school system as to the procedure they would like you to follow for CEU credits.

Upon completion of the course, participants receive a Schools Attuned Program certificate of completion that may be turned in to their local school system for CEU credit. Requirements for receiving the Schools Attuned certificate include:

a. Participation in and attendance at all sessions of the Core Course

b. Participation in and attendance at all Practicum sessions during the following school year

c. Completion of a portfolio providing evidence of professional development and the Schools Attuned Program implementation within the classroom

Will I receive a stipend for attending?
You will not receive a stipend from All Kinds of Minds or the Schools Attuned Program. Your school district can decide to support you in this manner, but our funding does not allow us to provide this benefit to participants.

Is this a Special Education program?
The Schools Attuned Program is a regular education program designed to help educators understand and manage those students who do not qualify for special services, but who struggle in school. However, special education teachers who attend the course find it quite helpful.

What makes this different from other brain-based workshops?
The goals of the Schools Attuned Program are to strengthen educators' understanding and management of differences in learning, help educators to help students become aware of their learning profile and improve students' academic and social achievement, and create schools that respect differences in learning and nurture strengths in students.

To achieve these goals, the Schools Attuned Program was designed using principles that reflect standards of professional development from the National Staff Development Council and current research on adult learning.

The design of the Program was guided by the need to develop content and instructional techniques that respect and use educators' wisdom of professional practice, ensure that educators are actively engaged in learning new content, develop reflection and other professional practices, and provide for classroom-based follow-up for at least a year after participation in the Core Course.
