The Schools Attuned Program typically costs $1,500 per participant. However, thanks to an appropriation from the North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina public school educators can attend at a cost of $100 per person. This registration fee is non-refundable. Unfortunately, Schools Attuned is not able to provide funding for travel or substitute teacher pay.
If we are not offering a course in your region, then federal funding may be available to participants who wish to attend professional development programs offered by All Kinds of Minds. Check with your local contact for district or state federal programs to discuss how to access funding. General information about funding support is provided below.
In 2003, Congress issued two reports stating support for expenditures of federal funds for programs such as those offered by All Kinds of Minds. House Report 108-188 from the Committee on Appropriations (p.143) and Senate Report 108-185 addressing IDEA (pp 56-57) state the following:
"The committee is interested in professional development programs that prepare school persoonnel to use a neurodevelopmental framework to recognize, understand and manage students who struggle to find school success because of differences in learning…"
Schools have used appropriated funds from the following federal formula programs for professional development offered by All Kinds of Minds:
> IDEA: Part B > Title I A: NCLB (schools in need of improvement can include funds for Schools Attuned in their school improvement plans) > VI B: Rural and Low Performing Schools

Past experience has shown the implementation of the Schools Attuned Program to be more successful when a school sends a cadre of educators, including an administrator, to the Core Course.
For schools that are new to the Program, along with classroom teachers, your team must include a building administrator or faculty member in a school leadership role (e.g., curriculum specialist, department chair, leader of student support team, or other lead teacher position). This requirement does not apply to returning schools.

Because this initiative is funded by the North Carolina state legislature, only public school educators in NC can attend these courses. Private school educators interested in attending the Schools Attuned Program may wish to attend to attend a course through a Schools Attuned Professional Development Provider, including the Forsyth Country Day School site provider in Lewisville, NC or apply to host an On-Demand program.

At this time, the state funding extends only to public school educators who are currently employed by the state of North Carolina. Participants must attend the course as part of a school team. Other related services professionals interested in the Schools Attuned Program can register to attend the course offered at a Schools Attuned Program Professional Development Provider.

You will not receive a stipend from All Kinds of Minds or the Schools Attuned Program. Your school district can decide to support you in this manner, but our funding does not allow us to provide this benefit to participants.

The Schools Attuned Program is a regular education program designed to help educators understand and manage those students who struggle in school, whether they qualify for special services or not. Special education teachers who attend the course find it quite helpful.
|
|
The goals of the Schools Attuned Program are to strengthen educators' understanding and management of differences in learning, help educators to help students become aware of their learning profile and improve students' academic and social achievement, and create schools that respect differences in learning and nurture strengths in students.
To achieve these goals, the Schools Attuned Program was designed using principles that reflect standards of professional development from the National Staff Development Council and current research on adult learning.
The design of the Program was guided by the need to develop content and instructional techniques that respect and use educators' wisdom of professional practice, ensure that educators are actively engaged in learning new content, develop reflection and other professional practices, and provide for classroom-based follow-up for at least a year after participation in the Core Course.

A state initiative is operated by All Kinds of Minds in partnership with a state department of education to provide programs and services to public school educators in a state.
|
|
Currently, All Kinds of Minds operates state initiatives in North Carolina and Oklahoma. North Carolina began a state-wide program in 1998 and the Oklahoma partnership began in 2000.
|
|
All Kinds of Minds selects these types of initiatives based on its capacity to deliver programs and services in an effective manner and in concert with its strategic geographic expansion plans. Should a state be selected, a proposal for delivery of programs and services is submitted by All Kinds of Minds to the department of education.
