For the 9-12 graders, I give them a syllabus at the beginning of the new term, where I provide the guideline of the course including text, supplemental materials, course goals, course description, grading standard, and learning strategies. Every Friday, I will send them a weekly schedule, where I outline the activities we will do in the next week's classes. In our school, we have staffing for some students, where the teachers, parents and learning specialists can get more effective communication. Dr. Mel Levine's article describes the typical types of attention problems I met during my teaching. I teach Chinese for the middle and high school students. When I give a weekly writing assignment or a long-term project, I will help them to outline the stages and time frame for completing them. For example, after we finish a text about family, the students will have a writing assignment to introduce their own family. I will guide them to finish this task in several steps. Quite a few of my students has taken or are taking two or three foreign languages--Spanish, French, Japanese and Chinese. In their Chinese class, I encourage them to share their different learning skills with one other from their own foreign language learning experience. In their culture discovery project, they love to compare the different cultures and custom among the different nations based on their knowledge and research.
